A Hidden Oasis in Ubud – Pertiwi Garden Hotel Review
During my days in Ubud, I wanted to explore a new neighborhood. I usually stay near the Yoga Barn, but this time I looked for something with a different vibe — and that’s how I found Pertiwi Garden. It had great reviews on Agoda and a very reasonable price of around $35 USD per night, and in the end, it turned out to be a very satisfying stay.
A Hidden Gem in the Quiet Center of Town
Although the hotel is located right in the heart of Ubud’s main street, it was surprisingly quiet. The hotel consists of several buildings, and my room was near the entrance — not too far inside, but still quiet and peaceful. A perfect balance.
A Pool That Heals the Soul
The biggest charm of this hotel is definitely the pool. Just walking across the small bridge and stream to get there felt like a healing journey in itself. Nestled deep in the greenery, the pool was clean, serene, and absolutely beautiful. It wasn’t crowded, so I often had the entire pool to myself or shared it with just one or two other guests. It was pure tranquility.
Peaceful Breakfast Moments
Breakfast is served on the second floor of a building right next to the pool. It's a small buffet — simple, but tastier than expected. What stood out the most was the view of the lush pool area from the restaurant. Enjoying a meal while looking out over the tranquil greenery was pure healing.
When you travel solo, there are times when loneliness creeps in or worries bubble up all at once. That moment hit me during breakfast — and it unexpectedly became a precious time for journaling and writing a letter to myself. It was a space where I could really soften my heart and reconnect with myself.
One with Nature – Monkey Alert!
One thing to note: because the restaurant and pool are located deep in the forested area, monkeys can easily make their way in. I was caught off guard when monkeys appeared during breakfast and grabbed some bananas. At the pool, a group of monkeys tried to snatch my belongings, and I had to quickly grab my bag and retreat.
It was a little scary, but also made for a funny story later. Thankfully, the monkeys didn’t cause any harm, and hotel staff quickly stepped in to shoo them away. I’d recommend bringing only the essentials to the pool and focusing on just enjoying the swim.
A Cozy and Clean Stay
I booked the most affordable option — a twin bed room — and found it very comfortable. The beds were cozy, the room was clean, and the bathroom was decent. It even had a bathtub. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it was more than enough for a comfortable stay.
Convenient Location Perks
Another major advantage is the location. It’s in the center of town but also very close to Ubud’s live music bars and great restaurants. After dinner and a beer, I could just stroll back to the hotel — safe, convenient, and walkable.
Final Thoughts
Pertiwi Garden is a great choice for travelers looking for value without sacrificing a unique experience. It’s not a luxury resort, but it offers a peaceful retreat where you can truly spend quiet time with yourself — even with the surprise monkey encounters included.
